About the plant

The new plant will be built alongside the NEWS materials recycling facility. The two plants will form a Resource Recovery Park and become a Centre of Excellence for waste treatment that will be viewed as a benchmark facility in the UK and beyond.

This exciting project will take general waste from homes in Norfolk and process it using an advanced Mechanical Biological Treatment process.

MBT will give us:

  • High levels of recycling - over 27.2% of general waste
  • High levels of green electricity generation for homes or gas to power vehicles
  • High biological stabilisation of organic material - safe material for quarry restoration and other uses

This means a significant increase in recycling and recovery in Norfolk, plus significant energy from waste in a clean, safe, environmentally friendly and technologically advanced facility, with no incinerator or chimneys and no harmful by-products or pollutants. The facility will not burn any waste or send material for burning elsewhere in Norfolk or the UK.

SRM is bringing a solution developed in Norfolk for the people of Norfolk that reduces reliance on landfill sites and builds on the work being done by NEWS to generate value from waste materials in Norfolk.
